There is nothing worse than wanting to sleep but not being able to. If you suffer from insomnia, you will probably toss and turn all night and then wake up feeling terrible. Being sleepy in the daytime can be dangerous, especially if you are driving or being responsible for other people. Many people suffer from insomnia. It is often caused by other problems. You might want to visit a doctor to find out what is the root cause. Natural home remedies can be used on many illnesses and there are some for insomnia too.
These are a few home remedy tips to help with insomnia:
- Reduce the amount of caffeine you are consuming. Keep an eye on how much you drink, especially in the last six hours before you go to bed. A lot of people drink coffee or cola without thinking about it but these are stimulants and will keep you awake. Coffee, chocolate and alcohol aren’t a good idea if insomnia is a problem for you.
- Chamomile tea is an excellent home remedy to promote relaxation. Some people prefer to mix in some natural honey and milk for a better flavor. Chamomile tea is well known all over the world for its relaxing properties. In fact, the smell of chamomile is also relaxing. You can burn a chamomile candle or use some essential oil on your pulse points and temples.
- Add a tablespoon of basil to your bath before bed. Basil is a completely natural relaxant and its smell will encourage your body to relax and any stress to melt away.
- Don’t do anything before going to bed which is stimulating. This includes watching television, which stimulates your mind and keeps you in an alert state. Read a book or listen to some soothing music just before bedtime instead.
The above home remedies for insomnia work for a lot of people. If you are having sleeping problems, try them. You will find these tips to be useful and you might find that an uninterrupted eight hours of sleep a night is not as impossible as you once thought.
